The Sensex, which started the morning with a loss of nearly 1200 points (at 53,070), then recovered slightly and traded at 53,356. But did not recover further. Slipped into further losses for a while. At 1.30 pm, the Sensex was down 2.5 per cent or 1339 points at 52,869. The Nifty was down 408 points at 15,832. Both indices also fell 2.5 percent.

Investors’ wealth plummeted today as markets collapsed by more than Rs 5 lakh crore in hours. The market capitalization of BSE listed companies, which are considered to be the wealth of investors, has declined by over Rs 5 lakh crore. The BSE market cap fell to Rs 2.50 lakh crore today from Rs 2,55,77,445.81 crore yesterday.
